Dear Brothers,

We hope this letter finds you healthy, safe and socially distant!

The last few weeks have been trying for our country and the world. Figuring out what this new normal means for each of us, as well as for the chapters of Alpha Phi Omega has been a focus of the Fraternity’s leadership and professional team at the National Office.

As many of you know, the last convention split annual dues into two payments, the second of which is due on April 15. With this approaching deadline, we wanted to take this opportunity to communicate with you about dues and fees.

This second due date was modified on the convention floor. What we knew and has proven true, is that the date is too late in the Fraternity’s fiscal year and puts tremendous pressure on the Fraternity’s finances. The Board of Directors will likely ask the next convention to move the payment date one month earlier. The National Fraternity continues to fully operate to best support APO chapters across the country. We are needed more than ever for what we do best. Additionally, some members will need to stay connected, even virtually, just to get through these difficult times. This is more important than ever as chapters across the country continue to seek ways to support local communities through service, stay connected as a support system to each other and keep Alpha Phi Omega operating through this crisis. So, at this time, dues and fees requirements are still in place.

We understand there may be some challenges in meeting these requirements. The national office staff has worked with our vendors to develop a way for members to pay individually instead of through the chapter if they so choose. Some schools have messaged that everything is shut down when in fact they are still paying invoices and maintaining other accounting services. If you need help in navigating school payments, our staff can assist you. If you have any challenges with paying your fees and dues contact the national office at chapter_services@apo.org. The staff will work with the chapter to find a resolution and a plan moving forward.

As a reminder, the funds paid by chapters through membership dues and fees support the operations of the Fraternity including:

  • Pre-paying required chapter insurance fees for the next school year
  • Creating new tools for virtual operations
  • Licensing more software to help chapters stay connected
  • Maintaining technology
  • Paying a downsized National Office staff to keep the Fraternity operational
  • membership processing and materials
  • and much more

Thank you for your patience while we work together to create virtual chapter resources, tools and technology to support each of you. There are many new items available on the Fraternity’s website under the Chapter Officers area, as well as on the Alpha Phi Omega Mobile Resource App to guide chapters through this new normal. We will continue working to answer questions and create solutions that give chapter members what they need to stay connected as a chapter and continue working to impact their campuses and communities through the provision of Leadership, Friendship and Service.

The Fraternity’s leadership will continue to monitor this ever-evolving situation and will provide updates and adjustments as needed. While this is an unprecedented situation, we know the brothers of Alpha Phi Omega will work and be creative in finding ways to support their campuses and communities through service in the wake of this pandemic.

Please do your best to stay safe and minimize risk where possible.

Thank you for your Leadership, Friendship and Service.
